Amwell View School opened it’s Butterfly Memorial Garden on Thursday 4th July 2024. The Memorial Garden was designed within the schools adventure playground so that the memory of the children we have lost is amongst children playing and having fun. The Memorial garden is at the front of the school under a tree which also creates a peaceful area for parents, family members and friends to visit.
Each child has a coloured steel butterfly with their name and date of birth. Everyone at Amwell View believes that if children have attended the school they are part of the school forever.
The opening ceremony welcomed parents, family members and friends who wished to remember their child and those who kindly raised money to donate to the project. Alongside the butterfly decorations visitors enjoyed butterfly cakes and refreshments and background music provided by our Music Teacher and Music Therapist. Lower school children then came to the memorial garden dressed in butterfly wings and scattered butterflies that children had made around the base of the tree.
Headteacher, Neil Ward said that the memorial event was beautiful and a perfect way for us all to remember our children who have sadly passed. We plan to make this an annual event and may have a Butterfly Ball and a Butterfly picnic in the future. We would love parents and family members to visit us often and hope that Amwell View supports them to remember their child in their happy and colourful School.
